The Top 7 Beaches In Italy

Posted by Darya Camacci On September 11 2019

Italy is home to many incredible beaches, some of the best in Europe.

A number of them are reminiscent of a tropical paradise, with white sand and pristine blue water. Relaxing on a beautiful Italian beach and basking in the sun with a bottle of famous Italian wine is an experience that you will cherish throughout your life.

Puglia

White sandy beaches dominate Puglia, particularly in the areas south of the historic towns of Avetrana and Manduria. Many beaches here are white sand with crystal clear blue water. Some beaches around Puglia are great for scuba diving, with some small coral reefs in the area making them ideal for those with a curious and adventurous spirit.

Sicily

Sicily has more scenic beaches than any other area in Italy. One famous beach exists at Cefalù, a small fishing town, which boasts white sand and clear blue water set among a backdrop of lovely centuries-old buildings.

Cala Marinella is a secluded beach, nestled amongst the backdrop of low cliffs in the Gulf of Castellammare. An advantage of this beach is that it is not usually overrun by tourists. Another beach worth visiting is called Mazarro, near the town of Taormina. This beach is also surrounded by astonishing scenery, with plenty of great photo opportunities.

Forno, Elba Island, Tuscany

Tuscany is more famous for its wine than its beaches, but there are wondrous beaches on Elba Island. There are five beaches, some of which can be overcrowded, but Forno is  a hidden gem which is much quieter than the others. Set in a cove surrounded by lush vegetation and beautiful villas, Forno is the perfect destination for a day of relaxing in the sun.

Positano, Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast in Italy is famous for its stunning beaches, unique because of the cliffs overlooking many of them. Combine this with pristine blue waters and you have perfection.

Sardinia

Sardinia has many incredible beaches, situated around the towns of Cala Gonone and Alghero. This area is known for its white sand, lagoons and incredible mountains surrounding the beaches, adding even further to their allure.

Monterosso Al Mare, Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre has long been a very popular destination for tourists, especially during the European summer, which means beaches like the stunning Monterosso Al Mare can become quite crowded. This doesn’t take away the fact that this spectacular beach has warm blue waters and gentle surf, perfect for relaxing on a sunny afternoon with a glass of wine. Salute!

Spiaggia Di Sansone, Elba Island, Tuscany

Elba Island Tuscany

Perhaps the best of all beaches in this area, Spiaggia Di Sansone is not as well trod by tourists as other beaches in Tuscany. What makes it so special is that it has maybe the most transparent pristine blue water you’ll ever see. Topping this off are the white sand and white pebbles, making it beach heaven.
